Pastor Burn Out!

Burn Out is Killing Our Pastors!

Being a pastor is the most honorable callings for humankind. It takes a special gifting, grit and grace in order to fulfill this calling. Pastors that live and preach the Holy Scriptures as a model for others are under extreme pressure to conform and they endure great spiritual attack. As I mentioned in previous blogs pastors are human and not perfect. However, they are expected to be perfect and their families are expected to be perfect. Who is burning out our pastors? We are, with our expectations and failure to grow spiritually we demand that the pastor be all that we believe they should be for us.

John Stott in his book "The Radical Disciple,"(http://www.wordandspirit.co.uk/blog/2010/02/12/book-review-the-radical-disciple-john-stott/) mentions three words to describe that state of the church today and its people, "growth without depth," a pastor's nightmare.

Listen to the message of Christ that your pastor presents and live it. Pray for your pastor not for the work of your pastor. Sincerely love your pastor and don't criticize as they are serving you as best as they can. Do you want to assist your pastor in preventing burnout? Become that "radical disciple" that you need to be.

A wonderful video by John Piper on how you can assist your pastor and encourage renewal and inspiration.
